This is a post about the Wyoming Secretary of State primary. If you are on the fence on who to vote for, I encourage you to spend a few minutes and read it.I am a Wyomingite who lives in Cody. Since 2021, my representative in the Wyoming State House has been Rachel Rodriguez-Williams. And over the years, I have tried to get involved in the political process more, because I care deeply about democracy and making sure the voice of the people is heard. I have attended town halls, gone to public comment sessions, and attended political gatherings of varying flavors.And not once during those interactions has my elected representative treated me as a person worth listening to.She laughs in the face of constituents she disagrees with. She refuses to acknowledge when she is wrong. She accuses anyone who dissents of being radical leftist outsiders.I am not a radical leftist outsider. I live in Cody, I went to school in Cody, I fell in love and settled down in Cody. I'm not going to leave town just because someone, no matter how influential, is rude to me. This is my home. But because it is my home, I know we deserve so much better. Rachel is not running for re-election in House District 50 this year, so I know that portion will get better almost by default.But she is running for Secretary of State.Obviously, after being brushed off by her for years, I was not keen to vote her into higher office. So I started researching alternative candidates for Secretary of State.Enter Robert Short, a Republican candidate from Douglas.I first met Robert Short May 16th, at the Cody Politics in the Park event. He was energetic, open, and smart as a whip. He has clear goals on helping develop Wyoming's business sector within the scope of the Secretary of State's duties. My wife and I both left there with an overwhelmingly positive first impression of him, both as a candidate and a human being.Since then, we have each interacted with Robert Short a few times, and each time we have been incredibly impressed by his professionalism and approachable demeanor. I helped out his campaign in Park County by distributing some signs in Powell, and we made a small donation of $25 to his campaign fund, because we believed it was an important race.And for our support, we received a handwritten thank you note.Our current representative, who was now shooting for higher office, never even gave us the time of day. But her opponent from the other side of the state sent us a handwritten and heartfelt thank you card.I'm not telling you how to vote based on politics. I'm not going to change anyone's mind on social media with a long winded post about the Freedom Caucus. But if you want to ensure the person you are voting for is a genuine and good person? Who wants Wyoming to be better? Who actually values the input of the citizenry? Who embodies the Cowboy Code, and treats those around him well?Then you really gotta vote for Robert Short. He is a class act without compromising in experience or integrity. Please make sure you either vote early or in in person on Primary Election Day, August 18th.Peter VictorCody, Wyoming

I am proud to support Robert Short and his candidacy for Secretary of State because of his leadership in Converse County and his personal commitment to youth programs. Robert has been a longtime champion of the Boys and Girls Club, playing a key role as a Converse County Commissioner in working together with private donors and the City of Douglas to successfully fund the capital campaign for the new facility. His leadership helped turn a vision into a reality that now serves countless families in our community.

Beyond his public role, Robert and his wife, Janella, have demonstrated their commitment through generous personal giving to several Wyoming youth programs. I truly appreciate working alongside Robert in our shared passion for providing safe, educational after-school programming for our youth. His efforts ensure that children have a positive place to grow and learn while giving parents and guardians the support they need to remain in the workforce. He taught me so much when I was county clerk with his knowledge and experience in areas that I didn't understand or knew little about! And yep, he was one of my election judges! Another plus, he listens! I had some great discussions with him and it was OK to disagree, but we never left a discussion with anger or resentment!

I met Robert through his years serving Converse County as a Commissioner. His constituents have continued to elect him as a consistent, level-headed leader who isn’t afraid to be bold.

He doesn’t traffic in fear-mongering instead of facts and he doesn’t have his eye on DC. He’s working for Wyoming. From infrastructure and public safety to broadband and business, he’s been part of the decisions that impact Wyoming.

Most importantly, he respects others, and the role of the Secretary of State. This job is about trust, accuracy, and making sure things are done right. It would be good to see a return to a steady, grownup approach to governing.

Having worked for Robert for the past five years as the Director of Communications for our Law Enforcement partners, I have witnessed his unwavering ethical standards firsthand. Robert possesses a sharp, analytical mind, likely sharpened by his background in electrical engineering and nuclear science. This intellectual depth allows him to grasp the technical complexities of state administration with precision.

During my tenure, I have seen Robert’s deep dedication to the people of Converse County. He employs a hands-on leadership style that ensures every voice is heard and every concern is addressed. I have also seen Robert navigate complex inter-agency conflicts and high-pressure situations with grace and clarity. He has a unique ability to analyze a problem, anticipate potential outcomes, and move forward in a way that protects the individuals involved.

I have also had the privilege to watch our county evolve as new policies and laws have been implemented, and I have seen the seriousness with which Robert approaches these changes. His oversight of the new Douglas Justice Center, including its second-phase expansion, has been unparalleled. He is involved in every discussion and maintains a full grasp of every detail pertaining to the building’s functionality. Additionally, Robert has consistently pushed for critical infrastructure projects, including his successful efforts to expand broadband and emergency services into the more remote areas of our county.
